Each year winter water warriors take the leap to become Eau Claire Polar Plungers. Individuals who have endured this icy plunge and live to tell the tale know that this event is not for the faint of heart, but for an exceptional cause. This unique fundraising tradition assists in benefiting Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) athletes to further achieve their goals, live healthier lives, and have a sense of inclusion in the Chippewa Valley community and beyond. Since 1999, this exhilarating and refreshing experience has been making a difference, and true Polar Plunger Veterans know that you must possess characteristics that include courage, boldness, a sense of adventure, and maybe a pinch of crazy.
Our employees shared the collective mission and vision of spreading inclusion, while improving and supporting the health and well-being of Wisconsin athletes through this fundraising opportunity that benefits nearly 9,000 Special Olympic athletes across the state, who compete at various levels year-round for their chosen sport. Together, the WIN team raised over $1,000 for this great cause!
Unlike past years where WIN employees needed to take the glorified dive while facing frigid temps and blustery winds, the 2024 Polar Plunge took place on a 60-degree, sunny day. This was the first year the event was hosted at Loopy’s Grill & Saloon, and it was a huge hit! From a bean bag toss competition to the plunge and good food, it was great to see the community come together.
