Knowledge Management Assessment

Is a Knowledge Management Assessment Right for You?

Knowledge management can be daunting and time consuming. While many organizations understand the value knowledge management brings, many face challenges in developing the initial plan and implementing the plan to create, share, use, and manage knowledge and information company wide.

A KM Assessment helps organizations understand where their knowledge management efforts stand in comparison to industry standards and identify next steps to get to the maturity level they wish to achieve.

Frequently Asked Questions

A complete Knowledge Management Maturity Model will have a maturity scale associated with it and will serve as the basis for conversations with the customer to evaluate the current and desired state. The maturity model measures the following components:

  • Creation and Preservation
  • Storage, Organization and Retention
  • Sharing and Distribution
  • Transfer and Succession Planning
  • Culture and Adoption
  • Security and Compliance
  • Technology and Infrastructure
  • Strategy and Governance

We begin the KM assessment process with a discovery meeting to understand your organization’s specific needs and goals. This meeting allows us to gather information about your current knowledge management practices and challenges. The next step is information gathering. Here, we perform a thorough evaluation of your existing knowledge management practices, processes and systems. This includes identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

Then, we compile our findings and create an assessment report that shows your organization’s maturity level and recommendations for next steps to work toward the desired level of maturity. We also conduct a presentation to walk you through the report and answer any questions you may have.

The pace of KM adoption varies among organizations and industries. Companies in the technology sector and those undergoing digital transformation are typically quicker to adopt advanced KM practices, given their need to manage rapidly evolving knowledge. In contrast, industries that are more traditional and less knowledge-intensive may be slower to adopt KM practices.
